Meghna Chakrabarti on her NPR radio program On Point just reminded us that her podcast is about to "drop."

Meaning, about to be released.

So why can't we just say, "...about to be released"?

Must we needlessly complicate language, and the language? Or, perhaps, better, must we so frequently introduce unnecessary complication? In some cases, shift, differentiation, or amplification in language is genuinely necessary or helpful.

"About to be released," however, remains a perfectly fine and serviceable phrase.
